Mitzel scores 37, Skyhawks cruise to Mandan Basketball Tournament title

Mandan – The Shiloh Christian Skyhawks (4-2) cruised past the New Salem Holsteins (4-2) 65-40 to claim the Mandan Holiday Basketball Tournament title.

Jaden Mitzel scored a tournament-record 37 points to lead the Skyhawks. The junior was an incredible 16-20 from the field, including a perfect 3-3 from behind the arc. Mitzel also dished out a game-high 11 assists.

The Skyhawks shot a blistering 73% from the field in the second half. Shiloh also dominated the glass, out rebounding the Holsteins 31-13.

Junior Taydin Soupir paced the Holsteins with 19 points.  

Mitzel and senior Matthew Reep were named to the All-Tournament team.

The Skyhawks will be back in action on January 4th when they host the Oak Grove Grovers.

Reep guides Skyhawks into Mandan Tournament title game

Mandan – The Shiloh Christian Skyhawks pulled away from the Flasher Bulldogs in the fourth quarter to advance to the Mandan Holiday Basketball Tournament Championship.

Shiloh Christian jumped out to a 35-17 lead at halftime, but the Bulldogs would go on a 23-5 run to tie the game after three quarters.

The Skyhawks would regroup in the fourth quarter, thanks in large part to an impressive effort from Matthew Reep. The senior finished with a game-high 25 points (including five 3-pointers).  

The Skyhawks will play tomorrow night (Friday) at 7:00pm.

Skyhawks win opening round game at Mandan Holiday Basketball Tournament

Mandan – Shiloh Christian topped the Bottineau Braves 73-62 in the opening round of the Mandan Holiday Basketball Tournament.

Jaden Mitzel scored a game-high 22 points to pace the Skyhawks. Macauley Young (14 points), Trey Brunelle (10 points), and Josh Lardy (10 points) also scored in double figures for Shiloh Christian. Senior Matthew Reep dished out a game-high 8 assists.

Seniors Ethan Hahn and Bailey Burcham chipped in 17 points a piece for the Braves.

Shiloh Christian will face the winner of Flasher and Hettinger-Scranton.

Mandan Holiday Basketball Tournament Preview

Shiloh Christian will take on Bottineau (2-1) in the opening round of the BNC National Bank Mandan Holiday Basketball Tournament.

Flasher (4-0) will face Hettinger-Scranton (0-6) in the second quarter final game.

The bottom of the bracket features a quartet of Region 5 teams:

Game 3: New Salem/Almont (2-1) vs. Wilton-Wing (2-1)

and

Game 4: Turtle Lake-Mercer/McClusky (2-1) vs. Grant County (2-1)

Boys basketball: Cougars outlast Skyhawks in double overtime

Jamestown – The Ada-Borup Cougars (8-0) were able to outlast the Shiloh Christian Skyhawks (1-2) in double-overtime 83-75.

Junior Jaden Mitzel poured in a game-high 27 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Senior Macauley Young finished with 24 points and 15 rebounds.

Shiloh has played a grueling schedule to start the season. The Skyhawks have played three top-caliber opponents to kick off the season — #2 Dickinson Trinity (5-0), #7 Minot Bishop Ryan (4-1), and Ada-Borup (8-0) — that trio has a combined record of 17-1. Bishop Ryan’s only loss came at the hands of the Skyhawks.

The Skyhawks will be back in action on December 26th when they travel to Mandan for the Holiday Tournament.
